The Energy to Make a Difference

We believe the vitality of our business depends on the health of the communities where we live and work. Last year we donated over $350,000 to a variety of non-profits organizations in Virginia. In collaboration with our employees and community partners, we look for opportunities to provide funding and volunteer support of non-profit organizations in the areas of:
  • Human needs
  • Public safety
  • Community development
  • Environmental and energy sustainability
  • Leadership and science education

Eligible organizations must be a 501(c)(3) or other non-profit as determined by the Internal Revenue Service with a focus in one or more of the defined areas and have a direct impact in the communities we serve.

Recent Contributions

Appalachian Trail Conservancy
Our $40,000 grant helped with the relocation of a 2.5 mile section of the Appalachian Trail near the New River in Giles County, Virginia. This relocation ensures the Trail's location on permanently protected lands through the collaborative efforts of the U.S. Forest Service, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), Columbia Gas of Virginia, Columbia Gas Transmission, Celanese Corporation, the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club, the Outdoor Club at Virginia Tech, and local governments. With this action there are only a few short segments of the 2,180-mile Trail corridor not in public ownership.

Science Matters
Our ongoing sponsorship of Science Matters on WCVE is just one example of our commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education in Virginia.

More than 300 Columbia Gas customers in need of financial support received aid in 2014 through HeatShare, the Company’s special heating assistance program administered by Dollar Energy Fund. HeatShare is funded by donations from caring customers which are matched by the Company.
