If you smell gas, think you have a gas leak, have carbon monoxide symptoms or have some other emergency situation, go outside and call 911 and then call us at 1-800-544-5606 (24/7).
In some areas, Columbia Gas operates a propane distribution system in which propane is distributed from a central storage tank, or tanks, through underground pipelines. In these systems, Columbia Gas owns and maintains the underground pipeline to the meter; however, the property owner owns the house line, including any pipe that extends beyond the meter to the appliances inside the home or business, or to other locations on the property.
Propane is a common source of energy for residential and commercial use. Unlike natural gas, which is lighter than air, propane is heavier than air, meaning if a leak occurs, propane may accumulate in low spaces and near the floor. Propane is naturally colorless and odorless, so propane service providers add a chemical called mercaptan that gives it a distinctive smell, similar to rotten eggs or sulfur, which acts as an early warning.

If you're inside, get out immediately. If you're outside, leave the area quickly.
