Social media users can help feed hungry Virginians via Columbia Gas #ShareToCare campaign

Friday, October 20, 2017

With a simple click of the “share” button, social media users can join forces with Columbia Gas of Virginia and the NiSource Charitable Foundation to provide up to $60,000 in funding to help fight hunger in Virginia.

From now through Nov. 17, every time a social media user shares or retweets a designated Columbia Gas of Virginia #ShareToCare Facebook or Twitter post about hunger in Virginia, Columbia Gas of Virginia will donate $5 (up to a total of $30,000) spread equally among six local food banks and shelters in the company’s service territory. The company’s goal is to match $30,000 in donations being made to those same agencies by the NiSource Charitable Foundation – for a total of $60,000 in funding to fight hunger across the state.

“Hunger impacts 12 out of every 100 Virginians. That’s nearly a million people struggling for an essential aspect of daily life,” Columbia Gas of Virginia President Brent Archer explained. “Through our Share To Care campaign, we are proud to partner with local agencies that are helping make a difference in the lives of hungry individuals and families every day in the communities we serve – and in the process helping spread the word about ways all of us can help those most in need.”
Virginia food banks and shelters receiving grants under the campaign include:

  • Chesterfield Food Bank, Chester
  • Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank,Fredericksburg
  • Oasis Commission on Social Ministry, Portsmouth
