Drivers can expect traffic disruptions - asked to exercise caution
Chester, VA – Drivers in Waynesboro are asked to exercise caution in work zones as Columbia Gas of Virginia makes infrastructure maintenance improvements to its Punchbowl Point of Delivery (POD) facility. A POD is a point at which Columbia Gas receives natural gas from a larger natural gas transmission pipeline into our local gas distribution system.
The newly upgraded POD will enable Columbia Gas to continue to ensure the safety and reliability of natural gas service for its residential and commercial customers in this area with a facility that utilizes the latest technology.
Work is expected to begin in early to mid-June and will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Traffic along Pelham Drive to Lee Drive including Stonewall Drive, Meadow Beauty Court, Lighthorse Lane and Pelham Woods Circle may be affected. Weekend work is also possible. Work is estimated to wrap up in late October.
When traveling through Columbia Gas work zones, be prepared for slowed or temporarily stopped traffic. If you encounter Columbia Gas work crews, please follow these simple tips:
- Expect the unexpected – Normal speed limits may be reduced; traffic lanes may change; and people may be working on or near the road.
- Slow down – Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes.
- Keep your distance – Keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead of you, and don’t tailgate.
- Pay attention to the signs – Observe the posted signs until you see the one that says you’ve left the work zone.
- Obey road crew flaggers – A flagger has the same authority as a regulatory sign, so you can be cited for disobeying their directions.
- Stay alert and minimize distractions – Dedicate your full attention to the roadway and avoid changing radio stations or using cell phones while driving.
