Chester, VA – Dec. 12, 2016 – To help fight hunger and support members of our community, Columbia Gas of Virginia has provided $17,500 to area food banks around the Commonwealth. This is part of the company’s initiatives to fight hunger and support basic human needs in the 91 communities it serves.

“Too many people in our communities struggle with hunger and it continues to be a great challenge,” said Brent Archer, Columbia Gas of Virginia’s President. “These great community partners are providing an essential and needed service, and we are honored to small play a role in supporting the fight against hunger.”

Hunger impacts nearly 12 out of every 100 Virginians. That equates to more than 912,000 men, women and children that struggle to find food for their next meal. The Virginia food banks work hard to combat the challenges these individuals and families face every day.

The Food Banks receiving the $2,500 grants are as follows:

Chesterfield Food Bank
Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank
Rockbridge Area Relief Association
Verona Community Food Pantry
Oasis Commission on Social Ministry
Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
Northern Virginia Family Services
