Chester, VA – May 13, 2014 - Columbia Gas of Virginia has started the final steps to upgrade the underground natural gas infrastructure in and near downtown Fredericksburg. The final steps include the abandonment of the replaced pipelines and final paving of the construction area.
Work in several intersections will require Columbia Gas to transfer the older pipeline to newly installed pipeline. The process includes opening the road in several intersections, purging the residual natural gas from the former pipelines and transferring the existing natural gas service to the new pipeline. Final paving of the various openings will follow immediately behind the work. The final phase of the natural gas infrastructure modernization project will include work on the following streets:
• Intersection of Hanover and Princess Anne
• Intersection of William and Caroline
• Intersection of Amelia and Caroline
• Intersection of Amelia and Prince Edward
Nighttime paving is scheduled in the downtown area on the following streets:
• Princess Anne Street (800 – 100 blocks):
• Amelia Street (200 block):
• William Street (200 – 400 blocks)
Work on Princess Anne and Amelia Streets will be conducted between the hours of 8:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. and is anticipated to be completed May 12 - 16. Work on William Street will be conducted between the hours of 12:00 a.m. (midnight) – 10:00 a.m. and is scheduled for May 19 - 23. All dates are subject to weather.
All streets will remain open during paving operations; however, temporary lane closures will be in effect while work is in progress. No work will be conducted from Friday night May 16 - Monday morning, May 19.
The paving work is being performed by Columbia Gas and is related to their $2.3 million downtown natural gas main improvement project.
