March 3, 2014 – Effective today, Columbia Gas of Virginia customers will see their monthly bills increase slightly compared to their current level and in comparison, lower than during the same time last winter. The typical monthly customer bill will be a seasonal monthly amount of $113.15 compared to the current level of $112.90 and lower than the $114.73 experienced last year. This comparison is based on a 100 Ccf seasonal usage level. A Ccf is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 100 cubic feet. While natural gas prices are stable year over year, individual monthly bills may be higher due to the increased demand for heating which will vary by customer.

“Our customers are benefitting from the abundant domestic supply of natural gas keeping prices stable this winter,” said Carl Levander, President, Columbia Gas of Virginia. “The price stability is important to our customers as individual demand for natural gas is up a result of the winter weather trending about 14% colder than last year.”

Columbia Gas encourages customers to enroll in the Budget Payment Plan and to take advantage of WarmWise which provides cash rebates for insulation, qualified appliances and other energy efficiency savings. In addition, Columbia Gas provides bill payment assistance through HeatShare which is funded by company shareholders and customers. To learn more go to or call us at 1.800.543.8911.

Columbia's gas costs are typically adjusted on a quarterly basis to reflect the price the company pays for natural gas, which by law is passed on dollar for dollar to customers without markup or profit. The other components of a Columbia monthly gas bill include charges for the service and delivery of natural gas and state and local taxes.
