Chester, VA –Jan. 5, 2012 – Columbia Gas of Virginia applauds Governor Bob McDonnell’s energy policy recommendations for the 2012 General Assembly announced today for their immediate and long-term benefits to energy consumers in the Commonwealth.
“Columbia believes that Governor McDonnell’s energy policy recommendations will support infrastructure expansion, economic growth, job creation and energy efficiency across the Commonwealth,” said Carl Levander, President of Columbia Gas of Virginia. “In particular, we believe that the Governor’s legislative proposals related to natural gas will encourage increased availability of a domestically produced, economically priced clean energy resource, which will benefit Virginia energy users, and support job creation in areas where natural gas infrastructure is currently not available.”
“Additionally, the Governor’s proposal recognizes the ongoing need to promote the efficient use of natural gas and the exciting potential to expand the use of natural gas for use as an alternative fuel for vehicles. We are particularly encouraged to see the focus on promoting energy efficiency and conservation programs,” Levander added.
Columbia views the comprehensive approach in Governor McDonnell’s energy policy recommendations as a thoughtful approach to effectively meeting Virginia’s future energy needs and providing valuable new tools for economic development.
