Residential Elderly Audit Program

Qualifying senior customers can reduce their energy usage and costs by participating in the WarmWise Residential Elderly Audit Program. Eligible customers will receive a free in-home walk through assessment to identify potential energy efficiency improvements that can be made.

During the assessment, our WarmWise approved contractors will install free high-efficiency shower heads, faucet aerators, water heater pipe insulation and a programmable thermostat. An assessment report will also be provided and will identify additional energy efficiency improvements eligible for rebates through the WarmWise Program.

To qualify, participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Columbia Gas of Virginia residential customer, 65 years of age or older
  • Have natural gas space heating and water heating systems in their home
  • Not be eligible for federal or state weatherization assistance
  • Meet the required income guidelines – income between 60% and 80% of the state median income level (see chart below)
  • Complete the Residential Elderly Audit Program Application.

Columbia Gas customers currently enrolled in the company’s HeatShare Energy Assistance Program, the Virginia Department of Social Services Fuel Fund Program or if the household income level is at 175% or below of Federal Poverty Guidelines are eligible to participate if: 1) they have natural gas water heating equipment in their homes, and 2) they have not previously participated in the DHCD’s WAP.  Customer enrollment and participation include the following steps:

Contact Columbia Gas at 804-777-3077 to determine eligibility.

  1. Complete, sign and return the program application to the address listed on the application.

  2. Columbia Gas or its designated installation contractor, will contact approved customers to schedule the site visit to install the free energy-saving measures, which include faucet aerators, high-efficiency showerheads, and water heater pipe insulation.

  3. During the site visit, customers will also receive information and directions on contacting DHCD to enroll in their Weatherization Assistance Program, which targets preserving or rehabilitating existing housing by addressing indoor plumbing, weatherization, and emergency repairs to homes with imminent health and safety hazards and lead safety for homes with small children.
