Safety Tips

Employee Identification

We are on-call 24 hours a day so that we can quickly respond to an emergency such as an odor of gas in the area or an accidental interruption of gas service. We frequently have to come to a resident's door unannounced when we respond to an emergency situation. If a Columbia Gas employee knocks on your door unannounced, it is most likely to notify you of an emergency situation and to check on your safety.

How to Identify a Columbia Gas Employee

All Columbia Gas employees and our authorized contractors carry photo identification badges. Most Columbia Gas employees drive vehicles that are clearly marked. Ask to see the individual’s ID badge before allowing them to have access to your home.

If you are unsure after inspecting the employee’s ID, please contact our 24-hour emergency number at 1-800-544-5606 or call 911.

Protect Yourself Against Imposters

Be alert to people who claim to be a Columbia Gas employee and offer a refund or rebate. Columbia Gas employees never deliver cash refunds or rebates to customers at home. All account transactions are handled electronically or through the mail. The only exception is when our employees are on-site to collect past-due payments. They will have proper account information and photo identification.
