Columbia Gas of Virginia Monthly Bills to Decrease
Columbia Gas of Virginia customers will see their monthly bills decrease 3.4 percent compared to the same time last year. Effective with meter readings after August 27, the average monthly customer bill will be a seasonal amount of $39.36 compared to the 2009 level of $40.76 based on 26 Ccf for monthly seasonal usage. A Ccf is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 100 cubic feet.
“Columbia and its customers continue to benefit from stable natural gas prices,” said Carl Levander, Columbia’s president. “As we get closer to the colder weather, we encourage customers to participate in our WarmWise energy conservation program that offers cash rebates to improve the efficiency of natural gas equipment, insulation and windows for residential and business customers.”
Levander added, Columbia has programs to help manage energy bills through our Budget Payment Plan that spreads evenly the annual customer costs and Direct e-bill, a paperless billing service which saves energy and the natural resources required to produce paper bills. Details on all Columbia programs can be found at ColumbiaGasVa.com.
It is important to note that Columbia's gas costs are typically adjusted on a quarterly basis to reflect the price the company pays for natural gas, which by law is passed on dollar for dollar to customers without markup or profit. The other components of a Columbia monthly gas bill, which are not changed by this gas cost adjustment, include charges for the service and delivery of natural gas and state and local taxes.
