Trents Ferry Road, between Gorman Drive and Locksview Road in Lynchburg will be closed to through traffic while Columbia Gas of Virginia (Columbia) completes improvements to its natural gas facilities in the area. The detour begins today (July 19) and continues weekdays (Mon – Fri) from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. until July 30, 2010. Detour signs have been placed along Trents Ferry Road alerting commuters to the construction activity.
The suggested detour route is Boonsboro Road/501 to VES Road to Williams Road or about 2.5 miles. Columbia will post traffic flagging personnel to help residents access their properties during the construction.
The traffic inconvenience is a result of Columbia completing work on a $2.0 million investment replacing 6,800 feet of 8 inch natural gas pipe that allows for the retirement of older aging natural gas facilities. The project began in February and the Trents Ferry Road construction activity will complete the system improvement project.
