Costs Lower for Columbia Gas of Virginia Customers

Columbia Gas of Virginia is implementing a natural gas cost reduction of 4.9% effective with bills being mailed today. The average monthly customer bill will decrease to a seasonal level of $37.57 compared to the current level of $39.52 based on 23 Ccf for monthly summer usage. This gas cost adjustment period covers the months of June, July and August. A Ccf is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 100 cubic feet.

“We encourage our customers to take advantage of several programs available to learn more about how to use energy wisely and manage their monthly bills,” said Carl Levander, Columbia’s president. “The Budget Payment Plan is one way to manage energy costs. It spreads the total annual energy costs more evenly over the year so a customer can plan ahead and budget what their monthly energy costs will be each month.”

It is important to note that Columbia's gas costs are typically adjusted on a quarterly basis to reflect the price the company pays for natural gas, which by law is passed on dollar for dollar to customers without markup or profit. The other components of a Columbia monthly gas bill, which are not changed by this gas cost adjustment, include charges for the service and delivery of natural gas and state and local taxes.

Levander said that Columbia’s new web-based WarmWise Home Savings Evaluation at ColumbiaGasVa.com can provide customers with personalized energy saving opportunities, free energy saving items and cash rebates for energy-efficient materials and appliances.”

Ways to Manage Monthly Bills

Columbia offers additional ways to manage energy bills and help save our natural resources. ZipCheck is a no-hassle plan that provides customers the option to pay their natural gas bill on time each month by automatically transferring the amount of the monthly bill from their personal bank account. A customer will receive the monthly bill to review prior to having the bank submit payment. This free plan saves the customer postage and check expenses.

The other free program is Direct e-Bill, a paperless billing service, which saves the energy and natural resources required to produce paper bills. Instead of getting a paper bill in the mail, a customer will receive an e-mail notification that their Columbia bill is available to view on ColumbiaGasVa.com and they can pay their bill electronically at no charge.
