Our community partners

We fund projects and focus our philanthropic efforts in three major areas-energy, education and environment-in order to directly enhance the quality of life where our customers and employees live and work.

Energy
Our work with many charitable organizations is tied directly to the use of natural gas in the community. For example, we generate the HeatShare family emergency fund in partnership with the Salvation Army to assist people with their energy bills, and we help payment-troubled customers through a variety of assistance programs.

Education
Although we cannot contribute to a school's administrative budget, we help fund a variety of specific programs in those schools that are part of our partnerships program. For instance, contributions to partner schools can help pay the cost of energy-related field trips or help bring computers into the classroom.

Environment
Columbia Gas of Virginia is proud of its environmental record and supports organizations that promote efficient energy delivery, as well as organizations that help protect our land, air and water resources. Examples include the American Lung Association, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Virginia Conservation Network.

A sampling of other groups supported by Columbia Gas of Virginia include:

  • American Lung Association
  • Maymont Foundation
  • Elementary School Partnerships
  • Thomas Jefferson Institute for Public Policy
  • United Way
  • Virginia College Fund
  • United Negro College Fund
  • Virginia Works Conference
  • Volunteer Service Award
  • Nature Conservancy
  • March of Dimes
