NiSource Launches $3.5 Million Giving Campaign for 2010

Merrillville, IN, November 16, 2009 - NiSource Inc. (NYSE: NI) has launched a campaign to provide more than $3.5 million in contributions to local human services organizations during 2010.

In response to continued economic challenges in many of the communities where NiSource companies operate or provide energy services, the company, its employees and the NiSource Charitable Foundation are joining forces to contribute to local organizations providing food, clothing, shelter and other basic needs to individuals and families. Columbia Gas of Virginia Scheduled to Discuss LIHEAP with Political Leaders

Chester, VA - Feb. 9, 2009 - Columbia Gas of Virginia (Columbia) is joining with other utilities, local community action agencies and community advocates in supporting the need to maintain current funding levels for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Columbia representatives will participate in the annual LIHEAP Action Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on February 11.

"The economy today is putting greater stress on many families resulting in the greater need for LIHEAP," said Carl Levander, Columbia's president. "Maintaining the program's funding levels will help these families stay current with their natural gas bills and help them manage their energy budget."

Congress provided $5.1billion for the LIHEAP program for the 2008-09 winter heating season - the first time it has met the program's full authorization level since 1983. Of that authorization, Virginia received more than $127 million. Fully funding LIHEAP has helped thousands of additional low-income Virginia families obtain assistance through the program.

"We want to thank Congress for recognizing the importance of LIHEAP and share with them the positive impact that full funding is having on the constituents they represent," said Levander.

LIHEAP Action Day

Natural Gas Costs Lower for Columbia Gas of Virginia

CHESTER, VA. - Feb. 4, 2009 - Columbia Gas of Virginia (Columbia) has filed to lower customer bills by more than 11% effective March 2. When approved, this filing means that Columbia customers will have had their cost of natural gas decrease nearly 19% since last summer. This filing reflects a continuing decline in natural gas prices.

The decline means a typical residential customer will have their total monthly bill decrease from a current level of $157.66 to $139.98. This is based on a 100 Ccf monthly seasonal usage.

Columbia filed its request to lower natural gas costs with the Virginia State Corporation Commission late Monday afternoon. This cost adjustment period covers the months of March, April and May. A Ccf is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 100 cubic feet.

"We recognize that the economy is creating stress on many of our customers and hope this news will help," said Carl Levander, Columbia's president. "We urge any person needing assistance to immediately contact Columbia and we can assist them with payment options or connect them with local agencies that can provide energy assistance. CHESTER, VA. - Mar. 2, 2009 - Effective today, customers of Columbia Gas of Virginia (Columbia) will have their monthly natural gas bills reduced by 11 percent from current levels. The decrease is possible due to the lower cost of natural gas that Columbia purchases for its customers.

The decline means typical residential customers will have their total monthly bill decrease from a current level of $114.17 to $101.79. This is based on a 70 Ccf monthly seasonal usage. This cost adjustment period covers the months of March, April and May. A Ccf is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 100 cubic feet

"This certainly is good news for our customers, but we also know that many families are facing difficulties in today's economy and need help," said Carl Levander, Columbia's president. Columbia Gas of Virginia Field Employees to Receive AMBER Alerts in Vehicles

Chester, VA - March 16, 2009- Columbia Gas of Virginia is adding more than 250 pairs of eyes and ears to the effort to keep Virginia's children safe. The company announced that, beginning today, AMBER Alerts will be distributed to all its field employees across Virginia.

Utilizing the mobile data terminal (MDT) technology in every field vehicle, vital AMBER Alert information will be sent via e-mail directly to employees.

"We are excited to be part of Virginia's AMBER Alert program," said Columbia Gas of Virginia General Manager Dan Cote. "Utilizing our electronic network, we can immediately share this vital information with hundreds of our employees across Virginia, improving the chances of successfully locating missing children."

Columbia has nearly 252 MDT-equipped vehicles on the road at any one time, serving 81 communities across Virginia. Last year, Columbia Gas vehicles traversed more than 2.6 million miles on Virginia's roadways.

Columbia's field employees are trained in emergency response techniques, including effectively reporting important information to local authorities.

The AMBER Alert Plan was created in 1997 after nine-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas. The AMBER (America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response) Plan is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies and broadcasters to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases.

Columbia Gas of Virginia Proposes Conservation and Energy Efficiency Plan

CHESTER, VA. - June 8, 2009 - Customers of Columbia Gas of Virginia will be able to take advantage of incentives for implementing a wide variety of money-saving conservation and energy efficiency measures in their homes and businesses under a proposal filed today with the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

Columbia projects those customers who take advantage of the conservation and energy efficiency measures included in this three-year program will save $22 million over the life of the measures in today's dollars.

The proposal, made under Virginia's Conservation and Ratemaking Efficiency
(CARE) Act, includes six programs, with 30 different energy conservation measures, targeted toward residential and certain businesses. Examples of the proposed measures include:
. Incentives for residential customers to improve the efficiency of their natural gas equipment.
. A business program with incentives to improve the efficiency of their natural gas equipment.
. An initiative to facilitate implementation of Virginia's Weather Assistance Program for low-income households.
. A web-based home energy audit program.

It also includes provisions related to broad education and outreach to customers on the money-saving and environmental benefits of energy conservation. This proposal is consistent with a number of recent conservation and energy efficiency initiatives, including those introduced by Governor Kaine and the Virginia General Assembly.

Conservation Plan Filing

As part of the filing, Columbia is proposing a mechanism to "decouple" the rates of its residential and commercial customers that will allow the utility to continue to recover its approved level of fixed costs while promoting programs to encourage decreased natural gas consumption among its customers.

"We believe these programs provide meaningful savings opportunities for the 99 percent of our customers who will be eligible to participate," said Carl Levander, Columbia's president. "We view conservation and energy efficiency programs as important policies for our country. Our customers' ability to reduce the need to consume a unit of natural gas through conservation is the same as an energy company avoiding the need to produce a unit of natural gas, thus lessening the demand for new energy resources. While this does not eliminate the need to continue to seek and develop economical domestic sources of natural gas, we believe conservation plays an important role in managing our nation's finite energy resources."

Columbia requests that the plan be approved for a three-year period beginning January 1, 2010 through the end of 2012. Columbia's Plan must be approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission prior to being implemented.

Winter Natural Gas Bills for Columbia Gas of Virginia Customers Will Be 12 Percent Lower Than Last Year

�� CHESTER, VA. - Nov. 24, 2009 - Columbia Gas of Virginia customers will pay 12 percent less this year than a year ago for their winter natural gas bills. Effective with customer bills mailed after Nov. 25, a typical residential customer based on a 100 Ccf seasonal usage amount, will have a total monthly bill of $138.42 compared to a similar monthly bill in 2008 of $157.66.

This cost adjustment period covers the winter months of December, January and February. A Ccf is the measurement used for natural gas usage and is the equivalent of 100 cubic feet.

"It is our hope that lower natural gas bills will help individuals and businesses reduce their energy costs this winter," said Carl Levander, Columbia's president. "For less than $5 a day, a residential customer can heat their home, cook their meals and have efficient hot water, while enjoying an exceptional energy value."

Levander emphasized that it is not too late for individuals to perform maintenance on their heating equipment and prepare their homes for the winter. In addition, Columbia's free budget payment plan is one way to spread out the annual costs of dependable natural gas.�

�

By law, utilities like Columbia are required to pass through the costs they pay for natural gas to the consumer on a dollar for dollar basis without markup.� The other components of a Columbia monthly natural gas bill, which are not changed by this filing (and which have not been increased since 1998), include charges for the service and delivery of natural gas and state and local taxes.

Columbia customers can also take the following steps to manage their energy costs:

�� Enroll in the free Budget Payment Plan

�� Perform furnace maintenance

�� Install caulking or weather-stripping around windows or doors

�� Keep all registers and air return ducts clear of furniture, carpet, drapes and vacuum them occasionally

�� Add insulation to the attic or crawl spaces

�� Install a set back thermostat

Columbia Gas of Virginia and the NiSource Charitable Foundation have pledged $50,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund in support of the Haiti earthquake relief efforts.

"We recognize and appreciate the important role the American Red Cross plays whenever a natural disaster happens in the United States or across the world. We hope that this contribution will help bring much needed relief to some of the Haitian families impacted by this event," said Carl Levander, Columbia's president. "In addition, our employees have been moved by the devastating effects of the earthquake and they have been making significant individual contributions to the relief efforts in Haiti."

Columbia Gas of Virginia Reminds Customers to Clear Natural Gas Meters of Snow and Ice

Chester, VA - Feb. 4, 2010 - The forecast for significant additional snow this weekend is prompting Columbia Gas of Virginia to remind customers to keep their natural gas meter and venting free from snow and ice.

The outdoor natural gas meter and equipment are designed to withstand winter weather conditions. The concern is that heavy or hard-packed snow and ice, icicles falling from building eaves, or water dripping from a roof and freezing on your natural gas meter venting, could present a condition that temporarily stops the flow of natural gas or create a potential safety hazard.

To help avoid these types of problems, customers are urged to follow some basic tips:
. Please keep your natural gas meter clear of ice and snow.
. Make sure your natural gas meter is visible at all times and accessible for maintenance and emergency responders (i.e. Columbia Gas of Virginia service personnel, meter readers and emergency responders).
. Keep natural gas vents unobstructed and free of debris
o Some direct vent and high efficiency appliances have side wall vents and air intakes that could become obstructed during heavy snow fall.
. NEVER kick or hit your natural gas meter or its piping with a hammer to break away built-up snow or ice. Remove the snow or ice with your hands.
. If you smell the odor of natural gas inside, please leave immediately
o Call Columbia Gas of Virginia at 1.800.544.5606, from a nearby safe location.
o Stay nearby until a gas company representative arrives, or leave a note on you door stating where you can be reached.
o If you suspect natural gas, do not use matches, electric switches or any kind of appliances or motorized tools.
. If you should smell natural gas outside your home or business, please immediately leave the area and from a safe distance dial 911 and Columbia Gas of Virginia at 1.800.544.5606.
. Do not dig around a natural gas meter without first calling 811 to have your underground utilities located.

April is National Safe Digging Month - Always Call 811 Before You Dig!
CHESTER, VA. - April 1, 2009 - April 2009 has been designated National Safe Digging Month. In Virginia, the law requires any person planning to excavate or dig to call Miss Utility at 811 and request underground utility locates.
Last year, Columbia Gas of Virginia (Columbia) responded to 330 damages to its underground natural gas pipelines across the Commonwealth. Nearly 35% of these damages were the result of individuals or companies not calling Miss Utility at 811 before digging. These events create undesired consequences that could include the interruption of utility service, damage to the environment, personal injury or even death.
"Columbia takes seriously the safe operation of our natural gas facilities which is the result of extensive safety programs and practices," said Dan Cote, general manager for Columbia. "Calling 811 before digging is the most important step in personal and public safety."
Before you dig or excavate remember these key steps:

. Call 811 before you dig
o Once you call, the member utilities are alerted that may have facilities in your proposed excavation area. There is no fee for this service.
. Allow required time for marking
o Wait 48 hours, beginning 7:00 a.m. the next working day following notice, to allow the utilities to mark their facilities.

. Respect the marks
o Protect and preserve the line-location markings from the time the excavation or demolition begins until they are no longer required for the proper and safe excavation near the utility lines
o Request remarking at anytime the markings become illegible for any reason
. Excavate carefully
o Conduct a site survey before beginning your project. Look for clear evidence of unmarked utilities. Clear evidence includes, but is not limited to, the following:
? Visual evidence of an unmarked utility line
? Knowledge of the presence of a utility line; or
? Faded marks from previous markings
o If clear evidence of an unmarked utility line is identified, contact Miss Utility and notify them. Wait three hours from the time you notified Miss Utility before proceeding.
o Once the underground utility is located, the law requires that the excavator take all reasonable steps to properly protect, support and backfill underground utility lines. Also, an excavator must not use mechanized equipment within two feet of the extremities of all exposed utility lines.

National Safe Digging Month is a partnership with the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the Common Ground Alliance, Virginia Utility Protection Service (Miss Utility) and utility operators. This month celebrates the two-year anniversary of 811, the national call-before-you-dig number.

New program will reduce energy consumption and create financial savings�

Columbia Gas of Virginia customers will soon be able to take advantage of a wide variety of money-saving conservation and energy efficiency measures in their homes and businesses under a plan approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (Commission). Columbia's energy conservation program will provide direct support to its residential and small business customers in implementing cost-saving energy conservation measures beginning in January, 2010. Columbia's program will also integrate the Company's continuing support of state and federal sponsored weatherization programs targeting residential low-income customers to help achieve energy efficiency in their homes.

"Columbia is pleased to be able to help our customers save money by focusing on their efficient use of natural gas. We believe that support for energy efficiency is critical both to individual customers by providing a tool to manage their energy costs while also supporting the broader goal of promoting conservation of our energy resources," said Carl Levander, president, Columbia Gas of Virginia. "By participating in Columbia's conservation program, our customers can take advantage of appliance rebates, incentives and other energy conservation opportunities that will help reduce their individual cost of energy during these difficult economic times."

Columbia will offer a variety of energy conservation programs for residential and small business owners that are intended to help these customers reduce the amount of natural gas they use through a combination of financial incentives and educational information. Highlights of the program include:

. A variety of rebates to homeowners and small business customers for installing measures such as high efficiency natural gas hot water tanks, tankless hot water heaters, furnaces, insulation and windows.
. A web-based home energy audit that will provide customers with detailed information about their current energy use and suggested actions designed to improve home energy efficiency. Participation in the audit will also allow residential customers to receive free energy savings measures such as hot water blankets, faucet aerators, low flow shower heads and water pipe insulation.
. A partnership with the New River Center for Energy Research and Training (NCERT), based in Christiansburg, Virginia, to provide funding for energy auditor training programs, thus allowing more audits to be conducted for low income homes that qualify for Virginia's Weather Assistance Program (WAP).
. A dedicated web site providing education about the environmental importance of energy efficiency and conservation. The site will also be the primary point of access for rebate programs, the home audit program and links to other sites providing information and rebates.
. A trade ally program to create linkages with equipment installation companies and service providers across Columbia's operating area to help maximize awareness and understanding of the Company's energy conservation program.

Columbia Gas of Virginia will invest $8.5 million over three years (2010-2012) to implement these energy efficiency programs. A customer participating in the program can save from $90 to $350 annually in reduced energy costs.

Levander also recognized the significant contributions of many key stakeholders provided throughout this process with a positive result for our customers.
